Reporting to a Senior Consultant in our Affinity Practice, the Product Specialist provides assistance to the group in conducting reviews of insurance documentation, liaising with clients and third parties such as insurers regarding coverage terms, and assisting with the development of recommendations to our clients regarding product structural terms.

The Role

Reporting to a Senior Consultant in our Affinity Practice, the Product Specialist provides assistance to the group in conducting reviews of insurance documentation, liaising with clients and third parties such as insurers regarding coverage terms, and assisting with the development of recommendations to our clients regarding product structural terms. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide support for various consulting projects, including PowerPoint presentations leveraging market data and product knowledge;

  • Support Request For Proposals processes, including review of proposed terms, determination of follow-up requirements of bidders, and dissemination / organization of proposed terms for both internal and external review;

  • Engage with Affinity Program Sponsors’ and insurers to review insurance certificates, distribution guides, and associated insurance benefit marketing materials (English and French) through multiple iterations. Such reviews are focused on ensuring that certificates logically make sense in intended business terms and conform to the preferred positioning of the Sponsor for its purchasing customers;

  • Assist in the research and publication of quarterly and annual market surveys published for financial industry subscribers;

  • Reviews of claims escalations on behalf of Affinity Sponsors to help develop recommendations regarding optimal means for Sponsors to proceed;

  • Provision of regular status updates regarding various ongoing projects for Sponsors;

  • Assistance with claims audits and report preparation, including tracing through processes of insurers and third party assistance providers and examination of individual claims;

  • Assist with other research for new client prospects;

  • Administrative functions as required

The Requirements

  • University degree preferred

  • Bilingual (English and French)

  • Working knowledge of insurance verbiage (certificates of insurance, legal language, terms and conditions)

  • Highly organized, resourceful and excellent attention to detail

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Effective and efficient time management skills

  • Power user of MS Office (specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Competent with customary office procedures

  • Able to work well with others, simultaneously manage multiple projects, and carry out assignments independently

  • Good communications skills, both verbal and written, to support effective communications with clients and colleagues

  • Research skills (to gather consumer, competitor and market data)

  • Previous work experience in insurance product development/management, claims management and/or insurance call center operations

  • Experience with travel insurance and/or NAC (“no additional charge”) embedded credit card insurance benefits
