Willis Towers Watson is seeking a candidate to fill an actuarial modeling role to assist with client consulting engagements, actuarial software support, in addition to internal research and development initiatives. The primary focus of this role is with economic capital modeling and loss reserving responsibilities. This role is a great learning opportunity where you will have the ability to work directly with many actuarial consultants across the Americas.

The primary locations for this role are Philadelphia, New York, or San Diego. However, we may be open to other locations for the right candidate.

The Role:

The candidate will be able to contribute to a wide variety consulting projects such as:

• Economic Capital Modeling – Custom model development, model parameterization and training

• Enterprise Risk Management – Model review and model validation, reinsurance optimization

• Software sales – Software demos, client training, initial model implementation

• Miscellaneous – Reserving, pricing, predictive modeling, claims projects on an ad hoc basis

• Development initiatives

The candidate will have the opportunity to grow into lead expert role for our financial modeling software platform, Igloo and our reserving software platform, ResQ.

Over time, the candidate will be expected to support software training of other colleagues and clients. The candidate will have the opportunity to work directly with consultants on capital modeling and reserving projects for our insurance company and self-insured clients utilizing Willis Towers Watson software. This role includes data preparation of small and large data sets as well as producing and analyzing initial results.

The candidate will also be responsible for development work utilizing our software and connecting to other third party tools/systems using your programming skills, which would include linking to the databases, eg. SQL and external reporting tools.

The candidate will work closely with a variety of consultants and project managers who will help to increase their insurance knowledge and sharpen their actuarial skills – all while providing a blend of client facing skills as well.

In addition to traditional actuarial and modeling projects, the candidate will have the opportunity to participate in key learning and development opportunities. With more experience, the candidate will be able to have increased interaction with clients and contribute to sales and marketing efforts.

The Requirements:

• Demonstrable programming skills such as VBA, R or Python is a must

• Proficient knowledge of manipulating databases like SQL

• Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel

• Knowledge of Igloo and/or RESQ would be an advantage

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Well organized and detail oriented

• Ability to respond to all communications effectively and in a timely manner

• Ability to ask the right questions and seek help when appropriate

• Flexibility and proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues; strong client service orientation

• Interest and ability to think beyond the task at hand and understand how one’s work fits into the broader landscape

• Strong analytical and integrative skills including ability to draw conclusions and identify trends from data in a logical, systematic way

• Ability to work both independently and on client teams and enjoy a fast-paced environment

• Actuarial exam progress toward ACAS and/or FCAS credentials is encouraged but not required

• Bachelors’ Degree required in a technical field such as actuarial science, mathematics, computer science, etc.
