Our Health and Benefits business helps large and mid-size clients control health and welfare plan costs, improve health outcomes and promote employee engagement through broad-based, state-of-the-art interventions. We provide solutions encompassing creative plan design, vendor evaluation and management, pricing and funding strategies, data analytics, valuation support, compliance and governance strategies. We also provide Specialty consulting services including clinical/health management program design, pharmacy solutions, disability/absence management strategies and claims audit services. Product based solutions such as our pharmacy purchasing coalition round out our broad-based suite of offerings.

The Role

As a Consultant in the Voluntary Benefits (VB) Practice, you will be responsible for overseeing the VB product & carrier vetting, due diligence, quoting, assessments, scoring and recommendation procedures for clients and consultants. You will be the subject matter expert related to overall product knowledge relating to plan design, in-depth details of carrier nuances, and knowledge of the marketplace voluntary benefit offerings to support TW product expertise in the area. This role collaborates with the voluntary benefits regional and implementation teams to ensure client deliverables are met for carrier recommendations.

Please note that this role can be based anywhere in the United States.

Performance Objectives:

  • Guide the enterprise-wide carrier / product vetting (initial and ongoing) and bidding for voluntary benefit plans across all voluntary benefit lines of insurance

  • Update and maintain the overall product knowledge library for voluntary carriers and plans and develop effective tools for consultants to distil menu and carrier options for their clients

  • Guide the effort of developing and maintaining a demographic / total rewards / client infrastructure analysis tool that will guide consultants and their clients to the appropriate menu of voluntary plans specific to and customized for each client

  • Maintain pulse on product and carrier developments, documents and communicate to teams

  • Manage and maintain product partner relationships, with goal to provide most competitive products in industry

  • Serves as a product subject matter expert with both internal (consultants, local VB teams) and external stakeholders (clients, vendors)

  • Monitors the progression of project plan and execution to achieve deadlines

  • Contribute to the vetting and analysis efforts for RFP process and delivery to client

  • Ensure service levels meet or exceed client expectations and professional excellence standards

  • Provide support to H&B LOB leadership, consultants and designated responsible producers to ensure that business operations comply with all regulatory requirement and company policies, including Professional Excellence

  • Work with Willis Towers Watson Finance staff to negotiate compensation from carriers and vendors including commission and override components (when appropriate)

  • Maintain an understanding of current industry practices and peer organization approaches to carrier compensation to keep us competitive

  • Mentors and provides feedback internally to other team members

  • Keep Line of Business apprised of additions and updates to our carrier and product capabilities

  • Respond to associate inquiries regarding product and carrier activity, and plan developments

  • Demonstrate natural ease and effectiveness when dealing with carriers/colleagues at all levels

  • Build relationships with internal and external resources

The Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working with voluntary plans and carriers

  • Significant knowledge of employee benefits products and voluntary benefit plan expertise, preferably with a VB Product, Underwriting or Actuarial background

  • Relationship Management expertise, especially specific to persuasion, influence, and negotiation. Has track record of being able to influence carrier partners related to underwriting concessions and plan enhancements.

  • Project management skills to manage variety of projects

  • Understanding of regulatory compliance related to voluntary benefit plans, ERISA, DOI and PPACA implications

  • Process improvement skills to drive process efficiencies

  • Ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of an organization

  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills

  • Problem Solving/Critical Thinking Skills in identifying, following up and resolving issues

  • Strong Excel & PPT skills

  • Availability to travel 20-30%

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Hold a valid insurance license or be willing to obtain
