JOB DESCRIPTION

The primary focus of the Risk Partner Practice Leader is to lead the Practice in supporting GB Retail in the development of WTW propositions, new business and account defences across our mid-market, large and complex clients in the UK. Furthermore to support Industry Practice Account teams, Regional Business Leaders, Account Directors / Executives, Project Managers, Sales teams, etc. in the delivery of business development and retention activity to support London and the Regional teams in the delivery of their plans. To identify, analyse and advise in the development and implementation of risk management programmes that will support our mid-market, large and complex clients’ risk management aims and objectives.

The Role

People Management

  • Responsible for leading, managing, motivating and developing the skills, competencies and knowledge of team members (in line with Group HR policies and procedures), including overseeing and managing of staff appraisals and objective setting

  • Maintain staff competence by ensuring that staff skills and/or knowledge gaps are met with appropriate training and development so they are able to perform to their maximum capability and fulfil their potential and the requirements of the business

  • Establish an environment that promotes respect for the individual employee and adheres to the policies and guidelines of the company

  • Work with HR to recruit staff with the correct level of skills and competencies, adhering to the company’s recruitment procedures and best practices

  • Manage the performance of your team ensuring staff have clear pre-set objectives and get regular feedback on their performance, ensure performance appraisals are conducted in line with the firms’ standards

  • Provide leadership, direction, advice and guidance to the team maintaining high levels of integrity, motivation and morale

Proposition Management

  • Provide objective advice and direction on a wide range of operational and strategic risk issues and map operational and strategic risks (both actual and emerging)

  • Work with Account Teams to identify and define client needs (immediate, mid-term and strategic) and develop a risk management programme / risk improvement plan which looks at 12 month, 3 year and 5 year, focusing on long-term client relationship and development

  • Identify milestones for performance measurement, providing a forward-looking risk management outlook (not transactional support) thereby supporting the client’s risk journey and assisting in their strategic goals and objectives

  • Leveraging industry insight, contribute to the development of the proposition for the WTW GB Retail business and other lines of business where appropriate

  • Build service offering in conjunction with Account Teams and client needs across WTW

  • Share best practice with other Practice Leaders, Account Teams and Business Unit Leaders as appropriate

  • Identify and manage key external and internal stakeholders (incl business developers, service teams, etc.) in the promotion and delivery of the services

Growth and Business Development

  • Work with Regional and Business Unit Leaders, Industry Practices and Marketing teams to build and deliver client and proposition-specific engagement and delivery plans for the practice

  • Provide focused input at client / prospect insight days and new business targets to ensure client’s / prospect’s risk management needs are clearly understood and that the WTW risk led proposition is clearly articulated

  • Deliver / provide input at new business presentations, client insight days, prism meetings, etc.

  • Attend prospect and new client meetings as appropriate

  • Work with Regional and Business Unit Leaders, Industry Practices and other relevant P&L holders to support sales strategies for each area as appropriate

  • Personally lead the management of a number of clients

Operational Delivery

  • Develop Practice capability within Industry Practices and Regional Offices as required – share knowledge and develop training / communication plans

Other

  • Speak at Thought Leaderships events/seminars, Client Academies, Industry Forums, etc. as required and ensure the Practice expertise is captured within the Expertise Portal and on WTW.com

  • Ensure all (internal and external) Risk Management marketing literature is up to date and fit for purpose

  • Any other duties commensurate with position or level of responsibility

  • Maintain relevant qualifications required for the role

The Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Appropriate industry and / or professional qualifications (e.g. ACII, MIRM, CMIOSH, CBCI, etc.)

Skills:

  • Strong facilitation skills – able to use inclusive/collaborative styles to gain agreement and manage conflict

  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across a broad spectrum of internal clients

  • Strong skills in planning and problem solving with a clear focus on understanding and exceeding client expectations

  • Excellent presentation skills

  • Good level of internal credibility

  • Good understanding of general insurance products, services and the insurance broking process

  • Strong analytical skills and high levels of business and financial acumen with an understanding of company strategy, operating environment and business objectives

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Proven track record of delivering excellent levels of client service;

  • Good understanding of company strategy, operating environment and business objectives

  • Experience of managing virtual teams – setting and agreeing direction and objectives for individuals who may not have a direct reporting relationship

  • Strong awareness of internal politics with the ability to read and assess situations to identify different agendas and adapt approach accordingly

  • Excellent levels of client and peer group service

  • Ideal candidates will have a significant blend of skills and experience gained preferably from within a previous Risk Management role

  • Good understanding of general insurance products, services and the insurance broking process

  • Relevant experience of managing stakeholders at all levels and actively engaging with remote business units

  • Experience of working within large, multi-dimensional organisations

  • Excellent management and leadership skills

  • Experience in a similar management role preferable.
