As a Director/Senior Director you will consult on a wide variety of complex health management and broader health and benefits projects. You will serve as the lead consultant and/or strategic advisor on client engagements, whether as part of a team providing broader health benefits or total rewards consulting or for stand-alone health management projects. As a specialist, you will regularly interact with other specialists and consultants to develop new intellectual capital; create client deliverables and develop strategies to address clients’ business objectives; and, actively cultivate new business and sales opportunities.

The Role


  • Lead health management related client engagements:

  • Serve as a senior health management strategist on projects within health and benefits, ensuring that the health management strategy fits within the broader benefits and total rewards strategy

  • Coordinate with teams and plan for execution of health management-specific client engagements

  • Serve as the day to day project leader, ensuring the progress of the team against established objectives, budget, timeline, deliverables and quality standards

  • Draft statements of work, project plans and budgets involving multiple workflow streams and client teams

  • Coordinate and effectively communicate with other specialists and generalist consultants serving as the primary and/or daily contacts to clients and program vendors on delivery of services

  • Manage client expectations and raise appropriate issues to other senior consultants and client relationship managers

  • Interface with colleagues from other practices and regions on assignments that reflect the client’s broader business issues

  • Manage health management client relationships:

  • Establish a trusted advisor relationship with client contacts and provide consistent, superior relationship management

  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell new products and services


  • Provide valued-added consulting expertise on large, sophisticated health management projects including:

  • Conduct clinical assessments of health management programs (case management, disease management, utilization management and well-being)

  • Launch and promote Willis Towers Watson’s health management solutions and strategies (such as our custom care management units)

  • Directly contribute to clients’ success through applying your technical expertise

  • Develop culture of health and wellness strategies

  • Conduct health management vendor selection, procurement and optimization

  • Measure and evaluate ROI for health management programs

  • Create/design customized clinical and/or health advocacy programs for employers delivered through health plans or other vendors

  • Stay abreast of carrier, TPA and well-being vendor marketplace

  • Design and implement onsite health optimization projects (e.g. onsite clinics)

  • Design innovative health management incentive programs

  • Contribute health management and related perspectives to broader health and group benefits projects such as benchmarking, funding and re-design of plans

  • Contribute to the development of new health management consulting tools and approaches


  • Meet revenue and billable hour goals established with your manager and division leader

  • Work with division leader, other clinical and health management consultants to execute on the business strategy of the health management team

  • Significantly contribute to new business opportunities for health management work with new and current clients through such strategies as:

  • Coordinating with existing sales and client relationship management teams to identify, develop and close strategic sales opportunities

  • Building relationship with internal and external sources to maximize the penetration of key target accounts

  • Leveraging existing market knowledge and contacts to expand relationships and create new business opportunities for Willis Towers Watson

  • Participating in prospecting opportunities with new clients as part of a broader team


  • Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrate natural ease and effectiveness when dealing with clients/colleagues at all levels

  • Educate other Willis Towers Watson consultants and colleagues on health management related intellectual capital and market trends

  • Demonstrate leadership by mentoring other junior level staff

The Requirements

  • 10+ years progressive experience and success in delivering health management or related health and group benefits consulting services to premiere clients, preferably gained in a health care consulting environment, health insurance carrier, managed care organization or another leading health care provider

  • Strong knowledge of the dynamics of group health plan design and health care delivery in the U.S. including how care management programs are operationalized at health plans

  • Proven experience successfully managing multiple projects and producing quality deliverables on time and within budget

  • Proven experience successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously and producing quality deliverables on time and within budget

  • Strong interpersonal and team skills

  • An executive presence with polished and well developed oral and written communication skills

  • Self-starter attitude and ability to work with ambiguity

  • Flexibility and proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues

  • Strong analytical and creative skills

  • Business acumen to identify opportunities for additional health management or other human capital consulting work in support of our clients’ strategies

  • The ability to see the “big picture,” leveraging the resources of related practices to address the clients’ business challenges

  • Strong intellectual curiosity and desire to keep abreast of latest developments in health management and health and benefits strategy, and contributing to the development of new tools and approaches

  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)

  • BA/BS degree

  • RN designation required, BSN preferred

  • Flexibility with respect to travel that can range from 30 to 60%
