The Business

Willis Towers Watson’s Global Services and Solutions (GSS) advises global headquarters of multinational companies on global, local and cross-border benefits and compensation issues. We help companies craft and implement globally consistent benefits strategies and provide a perspective that balances global and local needs. To help with this, GSS offers a single point of contact who is able to seamlessly draw upon the global knowledge, services and tools of Willis Towers Watson, and beyond, to provide the relevant local expertise and detailed knowledge based on their understanding of the needs of the global client. We know that communication is key, and the GSS presents local information in a way that global headquarters can understand. As a result Willis Towers Watson’s GSS has a client list which is the envy of the industry and grows year-on-year.

Our Work

The work we do in the Global Services and Solutions is very varied and you will have the opportunity to work on many of these projects during your first few years.

This includes providing advice to multinational companies in the following areas, among others:

  • Global pensions accounting coordination

  • Benefits audits and benchmarking

  • Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A)

  • Work on exotic pension and other benefit plans

  • Global brokerage support

  • Benefits for internationally mobile employees

  • Financing strategy and risk management

  • Multinational pooling and captive projects

The Role

All our associates work on client teams, such teams typically consist of the graduate, an associate who reviews the work the graduate has done and a senior associate who performs a final review. In these teams, graduates support other associates working on global projects for corporate headquarters. They assist with project management, liaise regularly with local consultants around the world and perform qualitative consulting work, such as researching information to support a company expanding into a new country or with M&A. Graduates will also support with actuarial calculations in special occasions, such as calculating the pension of an internationally mobile employee.

From the get-go and in each type of project, graduates will be involved in client communications. Face-to-face, by telephone and via e-mail contact you start to build relationships with clients. This helps the client get comfortable with the team and ensures you gain a better idea of what the client’s wants and needs are.

Career path

Within most teams graduates will start off as the person doing the initial work, drafting reports and e-mails and preparing the documents for meetings, etc. As you grow in this role, you will be able to delegate to more junior associates (or to some of our support centres across the world). Every year you’ll be expected to take on more responsibility gradually as you develop your skills.

We help getting you the technical and project management skills by learning on the job, but also with trainings specifically developed for associates within GSS. An internal coach will also be assigned to you.

As your career develops, you can expect to focus on the areas that interest you the most. Thanks to our global network, we are able to support our associates who want to spend time working in different locations around the world – whether this is a temporary assignment or a permanent position.

Team structure

The Global Services and Solutions consists of approx. 250 people around the world. GSS EMEA consists of 120 employees spread over the UK, Germany, France, Sweden and Switzerland, as well as the Netherlands.

You would be part of our team in Amstelveen, aiming to grow each year. Within GSS EMEA we work as one team, so it is possible that part of your client team is located in a different country within EMEA. Therefore, you might be asked to travel to attend team meetings or training from time to time.
